Participatory sculptural installation
Concrete, modular elements
Dimensions variable
Funk Turm is a sculptural installation that explores how the mass aesthetics of the former GDR produced an imaginary playing field in which collective identities were shaped through structure, repetition, and the material properties of concrete. Drawing from East-German totalitarian architecture, modernist planning, and the modular logic of Le Corbusier, the work translates ideological form into tactile, stackable concrete elements that resemble parts of a children’s play set. These objects invite rearrangement and interaction, framing play as a controlled yet generative space where imagination unfolds within predefined limits. By the act of play, the installation allows a communion with its ideological messaging, reflecting on the way ideologies model social behavior and subjectivities.
